Road Trip: Colorado
"I've been everywhere, man." Eh, can't say that quite yet, Cash. But we are driving cross-country to Colorado - we as in my boyfriend Matt and brother Dan. We'll be staying with my aunt in Denver for most of the trip but plan to stay in the Rockies for two nights as well! Colorado Springs, Pike's Peak, Brainard Lake and a concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater is also on our list.
The Trip There

Our trip started in central Connecticut - destination: Denver, Colorado. We traversed through New York and Pennsylvania in the early hours of the first travel day. Ohio, Indiana and Illinois followed mid-day to cap our first leg of the trip with a night's stay in central Iowa. In case anyone was wondering what our scenery was like for the first day, I have one word for you: corn. I'm talking acres and acres never-ending with corn fields. There's a reason these states (Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska) are nicknamed the corn belt of the US. With half of the trip more to go, we took off early the following morning for Colorado. Nebraska was flat, humid and full of corn. We were all relieved to see a change in terrain when we crossed the Colorado border. Soon, mountains filled the horizon and we arrived in Denver around 6:30 PM local time. Our aunt Cindy cooked us some delicious pork chops accompanied by mango salad and rice with lentils.

First Few Days in Denver
Our first full day in Denver featured a little tour of downtown Denver and its surrounding hubs by Cindy. Dan picked up some homemade beef jerky at the farmer's market and Matt snagged some kale pesto. We each tried what I thought was a possible form of cocaine (kind of joking… after chewing on what looked like crumbled hops I realized that I could have just consumed drugs). But - come to find out - it was called toothache plant. And it makes your whole mouth tingle and go numb while removing toxins and cleansing your mouth. It also helps with indigestion and cleanses your liver of toxins. Dodged a bullet there LOL. We stopped at a dispensary and headed back to bask in the sun on Cindy's front lawn, playing music and smoking pot. That night, we attended the Underground Music Showcase downtown. Every bar and outdoor venue hosted a local or national band. We danced to STRFKR and bar-hopped hearing anything from hard rock jam-bands to spacey, transy shoe-gaze music. The following day we checked out a couple more dispensaries, relaxed midday after some authentic Mexican food and went to Jefferson Park for some blue grass music. The park's natural bowl-shape fosters great acoustics for anyone nearby. Some late-night pizza ended our second day in Colorado.
