MAINE 2019

It's Matt's 30th Birthday!! Typically this time of year Matt and I are exploring a different country or place for weeks on end. But this year, we enjoyed the best Connecticut weather for the end of May and into June and decided to have a mini trip instead. For Matt's birthday - we headed up North to explore some coastal towns and cities in Maine. The itinerary? York - Portland - Bar Harbor - & Acadia National Park... all driving up Route 1 along the coast. Our plans? Eat, eat, eat and sip that seaside air. Oh! And see the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. Day 1 - CT -> ME

We started our day with a moderately early alarm and packed the Subaru for our trip north. Thanks to Matt's friend, Andy, we had delicious Brooklyn Bagels to savor (thanks, Andy!!) The drive to York took around 3 hours and was smooth sailing thanks to the few people deciding to travel on a Monday (haha). We arrived at the York Harbor Inn for early check-in, but the room wasn't quite ready. Off to the town!!! What would be the first thing you would do on the coast of Maine? Pig out on lobster!? OH MY GOSH SAME. So that's what we did... from Shore Road Restaurant in York - $10.99 for a "Connecticut Lobster Roll" (according to the menu - the buttery, hot kind aka the best)! This meal remained the cheapest and BEST lobster roll we had the entire trip and it was a quick decision. Matt insisted we check out the ice cream place recommended by the Inn - "sure thing!" I said. We ended up on some road at a rundown building that "is it!!" matt insisted. "I'll just call the Inn to see what they said" - me. "No, I know this is the right place..." - Matt. We called the place only to find out they only operate out of a truck - so, okay - off we went! I kept saying, Matt this can't be the play they recommended. He was CERTAIN. We finally grabbed some ice cream from the stand only to find out it WASN'T the place. Oh, Matthew... who knew? Next we stopped at the Nubble Lighthouse where my dear friend Jen got engaged a few years prior (hi Jen & Zaque!!) and it was gorgeous. The island on which the lighthouse sits is only accessible by private tours and bookings - all photos were taken from across the water. We checked in to our gorgeous room equipped with wood floors, a ceiling fan, super comfy bed and a hot tub (you're damn right I used it). We explored the beach across the street from the Inn and embarked on the cliffside walk overlooking the water. We didn't pass one person - it was perfection. We ended the day with a little beer tasting and a trip to Ogunquit beach that my parents dub the best Maine beach (: It was indeed gorgeous - plus we caught it at sunset which happened to be perfect timing. The beach was rich with pinks, purples and pale blues. We grabbed ice cream at Rococo which is known to have weird/different flavors like guava cookie (matt got that), goat cheese blackberry, cantelope and merlot. We ended the night late with me taking a bubble bath with too many bubbles (not really selling myself to matt on the whole lets-get-a-bathtub! thing. But! He enjoyed himself on his first day of our Maine adventures regardless. (:
